“True Blood” star Nelsan Ellis has died from heart failure complications. Manager Emily Gerson Saines issued a statement saying “Nelsan has passed away after complications with heart failure. He was a great talent, and his words and presence will be forever missed.” HBO also issued a statement and said “We were extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Nelsan Ellis,” and “Nelsan was a long-time member of the HBO family whose groundbreaking portrayal of Lafayette will be remembered fondly within the overall legacy of True Blood. Nelsan will be dearly missed by his fans and all of us at HBO.”
Nelsan was a cast member of multiple television shows including Veronica Mars, Without a Trace and Elementary. In the movies, Ellis played Martin Luther King, Jr. in Lee Daniels’ The Butler and “Get on Up”, a film about James Brown. Another talented actor gone too soon.
