Carson Daly, host of The Voice and a personality on NBC’s Today show announced via a family-issued statement about the passing of his mother, Pattie Daly Caruso on Sunday at age 73. Matt Lauer read the statement on air on Monday: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, wife, grandmother, Pattie Daly Caruso. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 17th, 2017. Kiki, as she was known to her grandchildren and many others, touched so many lives with her kindness, her giant spirit, and her love of life. She will be terribly missed by her family and the world, but her spark will shine for eternity.”
In the statement, there is no mention as to how Daly Caruso passed; but a Palm Springs newspaper, the Desert Sun, reported that a family spokesperson related Pattie died peacefully at home and that the cause of death was a heart attack.
Carson, who had a great relationship with his mother, lost his father in 1979 from bladder cancer.
Caruso Daly was a star in her right, appearing on local TV and hosting ‘Valley Views’ her own talk show for the past 25 years. She was often Carson’s date at red carpet events and often appeared on The Voice. In 1997, she was named the “Television Woman of the Year,” as well as “First Lady of the Desert” in 1998 and was honored with the Athena Award in 2003.
Pattie grew up in in Fayetteville, NC. She had her first on-air job hosting her radio show, ‘Pat’s Platter Party’ when she was only 17. She attended the Pasadena Playhouse after moving to California and continued working in radio in Santa Monica.
In addition to appearing on her TV show, Daly Caruso, a breast cancer survivor, worked with many charities including the American Cancer Foundation, Eisenhower Medical Center Auxiliary and the Ronald McDonald House.
Carson was visibly absent from 2017 Emmy Awards telecast on Sunday night. His competition show, The Voice won an Emmy for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program.
Daly Caruso is survived by her husband, Richard Caruso, two children and five grandchildren.
