In case you were vacationing in Old Valyria when the news broke, Westeros is scheduled to return to our homes in seventeen weeks.
In an extensive yet exciting moment of madness, HBO announced the season 7 ‘Game of Thrones’ premiere date via Facebook livestream. Over the course of an hour or so, a block of ice was melted in order to reveal the numbers 7/16/2017! At the end, a teaser was released that featured shattering sigils under voice-overs from seasons past. Fans were reminded that the Great War is here, The snippet’s iconic conclusion was had through the icy blue eyes of a white walker!
While fans waited for the anticipated date, Kit Harington (Jon Snow) decided to do a little public relations to pass the time away. In a brief interview with Huffington Post, Harington admitted that this season he and his fellow cast members did more than ever especially in the way of action scenes. Harington believes the gaping hole of time between seasons 6 and 7 will be worth it because of this factor.
Harington went on to say that current characters are the main focus of this season. There will be few new additions to provide distraction from the stories that counted from the beginning. Also, the Jon – Sansa reunion, a highlight of last season, was a simply a chaser. More of our faves will run into one another again (or for the first time) in season 7. Such will be a major fan wish fulfilled.
The beloved Jon Snow actor was gracious enough to add that the production value of GOT’s upcoming penultimate season has been increased.

Harington expects recent alterations to live up to the hype the show has welcomed over the years. Great news, considering this season’s reduction to seven episodes. This update quells the concerns held by many viewers who happily expect a full menu of ten consecutive opportunities to see Jon, Dany, Cersei, Drogon et al and every character we have come to love during the show’s run every year.
Despite clues in the teaser pointing to dragon and wild fire, ice and castle walls, Harington insisted that he had no idea where the story line for the Jon Snow character would go after this year. He maintains, as do all the cast, that they learn shortly before viewers, the fate of the characters.
Well, there you have it. ‘Game of Thrones’ has become a summer series for the next year at least. Winter continues. It will be big and exciting. As usual, we have no idea what is going to happen to anyone or anything. However, it is safe to assume based on last season’s wrap-up and the titular description of G.R.R Martin”s book series that resulted in the show’s creation, a battle of the elements will ensue.
Until then, let the countdown marathons begin!
‘Game of Thrones’ season 7 premieres Sunday, July 16, 2017 on HBO at 8 p.m. EST
