They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Except when it comes to ripping off someone else’s designs and passing them off as your your own. That’s what Khloe Kardashian is being accused of by designer to the stars, Destiney Bleu.
According to People Style, Bleu is accusing Kardashian of stealing her design and re-producing her starburst bodysuits. She tweeted after seeing a ‘Khloé’s Good American’ promotional video, “When someone buys 1 of everything on your site, has you make them custom @dbleudazzled work, never posts it or wears it, then copies it.” That video showed bodysuits, strikingly similar to the designs created by Bleu.
Kardashian’s company wrote back, “Important to know your fashion history #nofrauds,” showing pictures of divas like Cher and Diana Ross wearing similar bodysuits. But fans of Bleu’s designs cried foul and posted pics of a “snake” regarding Kardashian’s alleged thievery, causing Kardashian to actually be an adult and release an official statement, albeit on social media, “Under no circumstances did Good American or Khloé Kardashian infringe on another brand’s intellectual property and we are going through the proper legal channels to handle the situation.”
Another grown up move, Bleu received a cease and desist letter from Kardashian attorneys. The letter accuses Bleu of defamation of character, and insists she stop making “false statements,” and that she issue an appropriate corrective statement. The letter even tells the designer to have her minions stop attacking Kardashian on all social media mediums. Kardashian’s document says that she never heard of the designer, nor ever saw or asked for any of her designs.
Destiney Bleu responded in kind with a 27-page document to disprove Kardashian and her attorneys providing a detailed account of her interactions with Monica Rose, Kardashian’s assistant at at the time. The timeline clearly shows screenshots of email exchanges and, even better, invoices of purchases, including a pair of customized underwear bedazzled with the name, “Tristan Thompson.” Uh-oh, gotcha, Khloe!
Still, Kardashian’s attorneys insist that Bleu’s claims are false and that Cher, has been wearing these designs for years!
But wouldn’t that mean Kardashian still stole them, if not from Destiney Bleu, then from someone?
