The first battle was over the $3 mil Kanye says that he’s owed from Jay-Z’s Tidal music streaming company. He claims that the streaming company owes him for videos and promotions for which he was never compensated. Now, the pair have added $20 million that Jay-Z says was fronted to Kanye to help cover the cost, including design of the floating stage used for the “Saint Pablo Tour.” Apparently, this is a standard practice Kanye should be aware of to help cover staffing and costs for artists of his caliber.
Jay-Z says the money was not a gift but was part of a deal with West’s concert promoter, Live Nation. But to West, it sounded like a gift from Jay and his recording label Roc Nation. And sadly Jay’s taking to using his 4:44 release as a means of putting his grievances against West out there. The lyrics on the “Kill Jay Z” song include: “But you got hurt because you did cool by ‘Ye. You gave him 20 million without blinkin’; He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f*** was he thinkin’? ‘F*** wrong with everybody?’ is what you sayin’; if everybody’s crazy, you’re the one that’s insane.” We broke the story … Kanye bailed on Jay-Z’s streaming service, Tidal, over a money dispute.
Rule of thumb, friends should never do business where one friend is technically the other’s superior. As details continue to unfold, whose side are you on?
