Former Fox News Chairman, Roger Ailes, Dead at 77

 

Fox has confirmed that hits former news chairman and CEO, Roger Ailes passed away on Thursday morning. He was 77.
Ailes had taken a bad fall on the bathroom floor earlier this month in the home he shared with his wife, Elizabeth. PEOPLE has confirmed that he suffered a blood clot due to that fall. Ailes’ wife Elizabeth Ailes said in a statement, “I am profoundly sad and heartbroken to report that my husband, Roger Ailes, passed away this morning. Roger was a loving husband to me, to his son Zachary, and a loyal friend to many. He was also a patriot, profoundly grateful to live in a country that gave him so much opportunity to work hard, to rise—and to give back.”

 

The statement went on to say that, “During a career that stretched over more than five decades, his work in entertainment, in politics, and in news affected the lives of many millions. And so even as we mourn his death, we celebrate his life.”

 

Former President George H. w. bush said of Ailes on Twitter, after learning of his passing, “He wasn’t perfect, but Roger Ailes was my friend and I loved him. Not sure I would have been President without his great talent, loyal help. RIP.”
Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Geraldo Rivera, and Brit Hume were among those paying homage to Ailes and his contribution to media, including establishing Fox News.

Ailes former employer Rupert Murdoch, Executive Chairman of 21st Century Fox and Fox News Rupert Murdoch said, “Everybody at Fox News is shocked and grieved by the death of Roger Ailes. A brilliant broadcaster, Roger played a huge role in shaping America’s media over the last thirty years. He will be remembered by the many people on both sides of the camera that he discovered, nurtured and promoted. Roger and I shared a big idea which he executed in a way no one else could have. In addition, Roger was a great patriot who never ceased fighting for his beliefs. At 21st Century Fox we will always be enormously grateful for the great business he built. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Elizabeth and son Zachary.”

 

Ailes’ death comes just a few months after his resignation from Fox News because of allegations of sexual misconduct and gross imposition brought about by female members of network’s staff.
