Condolences go out to Cuba Jr. and Omar and the entire Gooding family for the death of the family patriarch, Cuba Gooding Sr. Mr. Gooding, was found unresponsive on Thursday. Drug paraphernalia and alcohol were found in the Jaguar, which was parked on Ventura Blvd. in Woodland Hills, CA. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His death, police suggest, was due to an accidental overdose, though nothing conclusive until an autopsy is done
Cuba Jr., who was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor for his portrayal of O. J. Simpson in ‘American Crime Story – The People vs. O. J. Simpson’, heard of his father’s death while on the set of ‘A Life in a Year’. The movie, being filmed in Toronto, also stars Jaden Smith.
Gooding Sr. was a star in his own right. He was a founding member and front man of the R&B group, The Main Ingredient. The group, popular during the early-mid 70s is best known for the sons, ‘Everybody Plays the Fool’ and ‘Just Don’t Want to be Lonely’.
Gooding Sr., who would have been 73 on his birthday, April 27, is survived by his wife, Shirley, and children, sons-Cuba Jr., Omar, and Tommy; and one daughter, April and a host of grandchildren, his remaining band mates-Jerome Jackson and Stanley Alston and friends.
