If you are a fan of the now defunct reality competition show, ‘Last Comic Standing’ you may remember comedian Ralphie May. Though he was the winner, he did finish in second place. That helped to boost his career as America came to know and love him. TMZ is reporting that May has died. The comedian was 45 years old. No cause of death is known at the this time, but May has reportedly been dealing with pneumonia. Yet, he still performed his act in Las Vegas at Harrah’s.
May is know to be able to poke fun at his weight in his act. But for health reasons, he underwent gastric bypass In November 2003, and managed to drop a total of 350 pounds. In 2005, Ralphie took part on VH1’s inaugural season of Celebrity Fit Club, a weight loss competition show. On it he dropped 78 pounds, but because of physical injuries he underwent four back surgeries and the weight crept back on. Most recently he was back up to 400 pounds.
In 2011, May was beginning a cruise when he fell ill. He went on with the cruise, but was rushed to the hospital with pneumonia and blood clots in his lungs upon returning to Florida.
“I felt like I was drowning in it. I stayed awake for five days. I couldn’t sleep. I couldn’t eat. I felt like I was getting stabbed in one of my lungs,” he told the Tampa Bay Tribune during an interview, describing his illness.
May married Lahna Turner on July 3,2005; but the two have since divorced. The couple have two children, daughter April June May and son August James May.
