EX-NFL star Aaron Hernandez was found unresponsive in his jail cell around 3:05AM on April 19, 2017. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead around one hour later. The Massachusetts Department of Corrections ruled Hernandez’s death a suicide.
The once famous pro-football player was found by prison officials hanging from bedsheets. Reports from the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center state Hernandez had locked himself behind a blockaded door in his general population single cell.
In 2015, Hernandez was convicted of killing semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd, also his sister’s boyfriend at the time. Hernandez was currently serving a life sentence for Lloyd’s death when he was charged with two other murders. On April 14, 2017 Herndandez was acquitted of the latter charges.
Hernandez death comes as a surprise because his lawyer, Jose Baez, recently told TMZ that his client’s exoneration of two murder charges has freed up time to look into overturning the LLoyd verdict. Hope seemed to be on Hernandez’s side.
Ongoing investigations continue.
Aaron Hernandez was 27-years-old. He is survived by his daughter Avielle, his fianceé Shayanna Jenkins and other close relatives.
