HBO has finally released ‘Game of Thrones’ season 7 promo shots with a little over 12 weeks until the first episode premieres! Reserve your squees. It is time to get directly down to business in our attempt to decipher if there is anything new or if these photos point to the same old song.
Let us start in the North. The real North:
Brandon Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) and Meera (Ellie Kendrick)
Looks like they still have a long journey ahead. What else is new? We bet Meera would have never agreed to accompany Jojen had she known every last one in their crew would leave her to take care of Bran alone. Or maybe she is just the brave warrior he needs on his side to help fulfill his destiny as the new three-eyed raven. He looks to be in a green dream as she pulls the makeshift sled. We wonder if he is reviewing his predecessor’s psychic records.
Ser Hound (Rory McCann)
Has he been captured by wildlings? Are there any notable wildlings left beyond the wall? Those look like armored men, most likely knights of the Vale. This pic is definitely interesting as it may hold clues to where the North’s storyline is going.
Little Lady with a Big Heart – Lyanna Mormont (Bella Ramsey)
She sure looks cozy in her bear fur. However, she’s not saying much, here. Same petulant look. Her life seems intact. We’re happy. Littlefinger is in the background. Let’s move on.
The Lord Baelish (Aidan Gillian) and his lady, Sansa (Sophie Turner)
Are we jumping ahead, here? Sansa looks like she has plunged, light saber first, into the dark side of things but that does not mean these two are an item. Regardless, there is no doubt Littlefinger is up to his regular “plots and schemes”. The body language in this picture alone shows that Sansa is once again on the fence in her dealings with Littlefinger. Is she on his side or is she a double agent?
Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) and Mr. Giantsbane (Kristofer Hivju)
One word. Three times. Ship! Ship! Ship!
Jon Snow Targaryen (Kit Harington) in the flesh.
Jon is still alive. He still knows nothing – not yet, anyhow. At least he has Valyrian steel and the entire North backing him.
Queen Danaerys (Emilia Clarke) and company
Everyone is present, but who are they awaiting? Looks like someone official because everyone is standing attention. Perhaps some sort of welcome-to-the- neighborhood committee has stopped by with pigeon pie.
Sam (John Bradley) and Gilly (Hannah Murray) in Oldtown
We know a bunch of learned folks when we see them. We suspect these two will come upon useful mythological information before the season is over. Likewise, Sam continuously finds a way to keep Gilly in no women allowed zones. This can not be a coincidence. We wager Sam will be the true MVP, when all is said and done.
Arya (Maisie Williams)
We have no idea where Arya is at this point. This picture does not offer many ideas except that she may be in slightly warmer weather. Looks like she has not made it further north. If anything she may be heading south to finish off her list.
That brings us to Cersei (Lena Headey)
Yeah, yeah. Jamie’s standing there, too. Does not matter the happenings of anyone else. This is her season. Cersei will reign fire from the seven hells. We will deal with it and like it, Lannister style.
The Greyjoys, Sand Snakes and Old Lady Tyrell, house of one.
Does this mean they are taking time off like Bran in season 5?
As usual more questions and curiosities than answers. Stay tuned as the updates keep rolling in.
