Well, looks like the stars have all aligned and the moon is in the seventh house because Katy Perry has signed on to be a judge on ‘American Idol’. Confirmation of signing on to the singing competition reboot was made at ABC’s upfront presentation on today (May 16).
In a press release, Perry announced, that she was honored to be the first to sign up to bring back the “American Idol” tradition. “I’m always listening to new music, and love discovering diamonds in the rough — from mentoring young artists on my label, or highlighting new artists on my tours, I want to bring it back to the music.”
Us Weekly is also reporting that another Idol alum might be coming back. Chris Daughtry is also being wooed to be a judge.
ABC was able to beat out Fox for the iconic reality competition show earlier this month. Since then, rumors have been flying on who and if any of the original judges, Randy Jackson, Paula, Abdul, and Simon Cowell would be returning. Or maybe even if any of the replacement judges, Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick, or Keith Urban might consider coming back for the relaunch; though it’s a safe bet, neither Nicki Manij or Mariah Carey will ever return.
Be sure to watch for American Idol in March 2018.
